Fantastico is
part of CPanel X. It provides an easy-to-use control panel where
you can easily install or remove scripts that aid or provide
content management, blogs, customer relations, etc. Fantastico is
an effective way to create essential parts of a quality website.
Deciding what you want, clicking the link and pressing the install
button is about the extent of installing a program using
Fantastico. Here are the steps to installing. For illustration
purposes in this tutorial we will install a blog.
Step 1: Click the Fantastico Icon in the CPanel X Control
Panel Homepage. It is located at the bottom of the page and is
distinguished by a smiley face.
Step2: Deciding what to Install- Choose what you would like
to install from the Fantastico Side Menu. There are many
categories such as, Blogs, Content Management, Customer Relations,
Discussion Boards, etc. For our purposes, choose “Nucleus,” from
under the “Blogs” category. This will display a short description
and a link that says “New Installation.”
Step 3: Installation Options- Click the “New Installation”
link in the “Nucleus” information box on the right. This will
bring up options as to where you should install the files for the
blog.
May I
remind you, installing a Fantastico program will use (1) MySQL
Database.
In the
“Install in Directory” textbox, type the folder name where you
want to install the blog. This folder will be automatically
created. Type something easy to remember such as “blog.” Remember
this is how you will access your program, meaning, if you type
“blog;” you will access your blog at http://www.yoursitename.com/blog/.
The form will also ask you for an admin username and password and
optional things like Site Name and Site Description. After filling
these boxes in, click the “Install Nucleus” Button.
Step 4: Review Your Information- After clicking install,
you will be asked to review what you have chosen and typed in.
Click “Install.”
Step 5: Setting-Up What You Have Installed- After clicking
install, it will show you some instructions, your account info,
and a link to what you have just installed. Click the link and
log-in using your username and password. From there, it’s all fun
stuff. It is just configuration and adding content.
See how easy
that was? It’s just a few clicks of a button and its done. There
are no messy scripts to manually upload and configure and install.
It can all be done in a nice, clean interface.
